Revenue: how much money comes in

Revenue is everything customers paid the company, before a single cost is taken out. It's the top line of the accounts, and the first thing most people look at.

It tells you scale and demand: more revenue means more people buying. It tells you nothing about whether any of that money was kept.

The direction matters more than the number. Rising revenue year after year means the product is winning. Flat or falling revenue usually means competition, price cuts or fading demand.

Remember

Revenue shows demand. Profit shows discipline. You want both.
